No community-mapped points in this snapshot

About the map →

Lake County’s own website is unread. The 237 board documents listed there stay unread, and the county’s own account of what it owns and operates is not part of this page.

The Town of Lakeview publishes freely, so we read Lakeview instead. A hundred and ninety-nine documents, council agendas and minutes from 2021 through September 2026.

Here is what the county seat turns out to be. Lakeview has a fire department, a water department, a public works department and a town engineer. It does not have a police department. Its council agendas list department reports from all of those and none from a police chief, because there is no police chief. The town buys its policing from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

You can watch it happen on the agendas. In February 2025 the council reviewed a draft Sheriff contract. In April 2025 the Sheriff and the Undersheriff came to a work session and then to the regular session to discuss it. In August 2025 the council took up Resolution No. 1175, approving funds for two deputies and a part-time administrative assistant, and then authorized negotiations on a law enforcement intergovernmental agreement with Lake County, appointing two councilors and the town manager to conduct them.

That arrangement is ordinary, and it is also the whole problem here. The town pays for the deputies and keeps no equipment records, because it owns no equipment. The Sheriff’s Office decides what those deputies carry and what it records, and the Sheriff’s Office publishes through the website that is unread here. The money is visible and the technology is not.

The only cameras anywhere in the readable record belong to a shooting range. In March 2022 the town manager brought an item called “Camera at Shooting Range.” In April 2022 she brought another: “Cameras Bullard Canyon/Gun Range - Cameras will be installed when snow is melted.” No vendor, no count, no cost, no policy. That is the complete camera record of the county seat across four years.

We cannot tell you there is nothing else. Sixteen of the documents we fetched are scanned images with no searchable text, and most of those are the signed minutes from 2025, so the agendas tell us what was on the table and not always what the council did with it. Everything about the Sheriff’s Office is unread rather than absent, and Paisley, the county’s only other incorporated city, has not been swept at all.

What this record does not cover

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Board of Commissioners. The county’s website asks us not to read it, so a records request is the route, and it is the first thing this county needs.

Sixteen scanned documents, mostly 2025 minutes. Paisley.

No devices have been mapped in this county by OpenStreetMap contributors, and the EFF Atlas of Surveillance has no entry for any agency here. Neither of those is evidence that nothing is operating. Both mean nobody has looked.

Who approves it

These systems were approved by boards, councils and committees that meet in public. We have confirmed where they meet and how comment works.
